ABSTRACT
The work of dental practitioners is associated with musculoskeletal overload, particularly of spinal muscles and joints. Physiotherapy, including physioprophylaxis, can be used to alleviate the symptoms of myofascial tension. This article presents physiotherapeutic procedures and recommendations for dental practitioners that serve to minimise the negative effects of static work, including monitoring of one’s posture during work at the dental unit, appropriate work-site preparation, taking breaks between patients, consulting a physiotherapist from time to time and moderate but regular exercise. In summary, there is no ideal body position for dentists at work and the most ergonomic position is the one you are just going to assume.
